The best phone 2024 : Your first decision will be between an iPhone or an Android phone – both are included here. Then, how much are you willing to spend? Maybe a budget or mid-range phone offers everything you’re looking for.
But if you are looking for the best of the best, you have come to the right place. It’s extremely difficult to narrow down the hundreds of phones we review each year to just 10, but that’s exactly what we’ve done here.
We could easily recommend all of the handsets below, but each one is ranked ‘best’ for a reason. Whether you’re looking for great cameras, performance, design or value for money, there’s something that will appeal to you.
Google, Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, Motorola and Xiaomi are all represented here. Nothing, Nokia, Realme, Asus, Huawei, Vivo, Honor and Sony were left out, but you will find them among other great smartphones.
Xiaomi 13 Pro Review
- 50MP wide camera, 23mm equivalent, 1-inch IMX989 sensor, f/1.9 aperture, Hyper OIS
- 50MP telephoto camera, 75mm equivalent, f/2.0 aperture, OIS, ‘floating’ telephoto lens
- 50MP ultra wide camera, 14mm equivalent, f/2.2 aperture
- 32MP selfie camera, 1080p video
- 8K video 24fps, 4K video 60fps
- 6.73-inch display, 3200×1400, Pro HDR display, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus
- Operating system – Android 13
- Processor – Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform
- 12GB memory, 256GB – 512GB storage
There are plenty of other impressive camera specs here too, including three 50-megapixel sensors, one of which is a larger one-inch format – something that’s still very rare to see in a smartphone. The default output of images is 12 megapixels, unless you choose to shoot in 50MP mode.
The ‘telephoto’ camera boasts a 75mm equivalent focal length and is described as ‘floating’. Apparently inspired by the Leica Noctilux-M75 f/1.25 ASPH lens, the lens module moves backward for close-up shots, and forward when needed for portrait work. With this lens you can shoot up to 10 cm away from the subject.

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G review: an impressive sub-Rs 20,000 phone
The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G looks good with its clean and minimalist design approach. Instead, the handset has a flat back, textured finish and three standalone camera rings. It doesn’t use a glass back or huge camera module, which has become a norm in the industry. The design offers some benefits. Samsung uses the same design language on its flagship Galaxy S23 series. This helps the phone stand out among similar-looking smartphones, and ensures a smooth typing experience if you place the phone on a flat surface as the device doesn’t wobble much.
Furthermore, the Galaxy A14 5G has rounded edges for easy grip. Sure, the phone is all plastic, but it’s well put together and doesn’t creak or bend. I was sent the dark red color variant for review. The color grows on you over time and does a good job of hiding fingerprints and stains. Talking about I/O, the A14 5G has a speaker grill, 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port at the bottom edge. The handset comes in three interesting color options: dark red, light green and black. The power button and volume rocker are on the right side of the handset. The scanner takes a second to unlock the device, but the main thing is that it is reliable. Like many affordable phones, the fingerprint scanner is built into the power button. There is no IP rating on the phone so make sure it is not near water.

Display technology
iPhone 16 OLED panels may use micro-lens technology for both better brightness and lower power consumption. Micro-Lens Array or MLA uses a uniform pattern of billions of lenses inside the panel to reduce internal reflections. Reflected light increases perceived brightness without increasing power consumption.
The OLED displays used in the iPhone 16 lineup will be more power efficient due to better materials.
iPhone 16 Ultra?
Along with the iPhone 16, Apple may introduce a high-end iPhone 16 “Ultra” that will be sold alongside the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The device will be positioned as a top-of-the-line iPhone offering, and may feature additional camera improvements, a larger display, and perhaps even a portless design.
Despite rumors of the possibility of an iPhone 16 Ultra, there is no sign of such a device in early iOS 18 code. The code reveals that Apple only has four iPhones in the works, including two standard iPhone 16 models and two “Pro” iPhone 16 models.
